Stamping Contrasts - Layers

We've had lots of new visitors to the blog this week so it does look as though you are enjoying our Stamping Contrasts series.  We plan to bring you more specials throughout the year so do keep coming back won't  you ;-)

For today's contrast Jenny and Kate are bringing you ONE LAYER - vs LOTS OF LAYERS using Home Sweet Home by Lawn Fawn

Kate

For my  card i wanted to add lots of dimension.
What better way than to make a shaker card.
I started with the co-ordinating die set to make the windows from the front panel.
The houses are stamped onto a die cut panel and coloured with copics.
I then added the small beads for the shaker.
The  card still needed more dimension  so i added the birds on foam squares and the two bows.
I stamped with milos abc on the inside to say new home.

I quite like making ONE LAYER cards, it takes away some of the creative decisions you have to make knowing that your card base is your only blank canvas. Just because you're not adding layers doesn't mean your project has to be flat though... here I've cut away a strip of the front panel and trimed around the stamped image.  I added a piece of patterned paper to the inside which will show when the card is closed, this would work equally well through an aperture anywhere on the card front.
I decided to use the little birdies and nest for a new baby congrats card.
To make a longer branch for the nest to sit on I've selectively inked and stamped the small twig three times across the card front, if the lines dont quite match up on the branch you can always use a black fineliner pen to fill any gaps :)

I used a craft knife to cut away the section on the card front and then coloured the images with Prismacolour pencils. To make a subtle blue sky I used chalk, yep I still have mine and they're very useful for soft backgrounds like that :) Trouble is they're not always camera friendly!!

Have we inspired you to join in the fun?
If you fancy having a go and challenging yourself to stamp a contrast along with us then link up your entry below - just pick a contrast from any we'll be demonstrating this week and make your own.   You could either make 2 cards to show the contrast or just choose one of ours and make the contrast to match it (so choose Kate's shaker and make a one-layer card like Jenny did with whatever stamps you have - you don't have to replicate the card - just the contrast)   We'll leave the link open for a week after our final post on Saturday so you have time to see all the contrasts before picking one to join in with and then have a full week to play.   You never know, we might even find a prize for the best contrast ;-)
